U.S.A. Eagles back-rower J.J. Gagiano has signed on to play with the Golden Lions (pending release from his old club) in this year's Vodacom Cup. After impressing coach John Mitchell, Gagiano will move to the Johannesburg club and is in the lineup for their match against the Falcons this weekend.
The South African Gagiano has been capped 14 times for the U.S., even scoring a memorable try against Australia in the World Cup. Previously, Gagiano was the captain of the University of Cape Town Ikeys in the Varsity Cup. If Gagiano plays well, he could find himself on the Lions team for the Currie Cup.
Gagiano becomes the second American to play with the Lions, with the first being fellow Number Eight and U.S.A. captain Todd Clever.
