Fry Officially Joins London Scottish, Asbun Headed To South Africa

We broke the new a little while back and now Eric Fry has officially joined London Scottish after receiving his visa over the New Year. Fry was most recently with the Manawatu Turbos in the ITM Cup where he played in seven matches during the season. His time in New Zealand resulted in a noticeable improvement in his scrummaging abilities. Now with a contract at London Scottish, he is once again expected to battle for time and be an atmosphere where he can improve.

Fry's fellow Cal alum Derek Asbun is also on the move. He will be heading down to Cape Town to play with the University of Cape Town in the Varsity Cup. Asbun was mostly recently was with London Wasps where he trained with the team and featured in several 'A' League matches. The move to South Africa will give Asbun the opportunity to play at a high-level, especially among the forwards, and hopefully improve ahead of next summer's internationals. He we will be far from the first American to play for the team. JJ Gagiano and Marcel Brache, who is U.S.-qualified, have played for the team.

  1. Awesome! Congrats to both. I was commented asking about Eric Fry the other day.

  2. Another American is the Strength and Conditioning Intern Trainer for the London Scottish, Justin Goonan. This Fightin' Texas Aggie Rugger has served as the JAA Strength & Conditioning Coach and runs the newly-formed Collegiate 7s Circuit in the NE US.
