Curtis,
ReplyDeleteFor aspiring college teams interested in webcasting their games, can you write an article on the best methods to do this? I would be interested in knowing what is the best carrier, i.e. youtube, etc. Also, if there is a particular camera that is best and if there is a computer software for producing the broadcast that would offer a graphics package for the scoreline in the top corner of the screen. All of this would be very helpful.
Thanks.
IMO any stream is better then no stream. Be it ESPN3, Universal, UStream, Anystream. hehe
ReplyDeleteLife used to stream allot of their games, not so much these days.
I would love to see more colleges stream their games. For me personally it would help allot with my interest in the college game.
Not only is it cool for fans around the country, but it is good for a team's sponsors as well. The ideal thing would be to live stream the game via uStream and then put the game up on Youtube afterwards.
ReplyDeleteLivestreaming is very nice. However, with upgrading a broadcast system to a point that is unreasonable for most college clubs, it is difficult to livestream with all the bells and whistles (announcer/commentator mike, ambient noise mike, ref mike, onscreen scoreboard, etc). Such also takes more bandwidth than a typical wi-fi connection can maintain with quality.
DeleteOne of the reasons that the ARC went to a Monday Night Rugby webcast was to record all of that together then sync & edit it for a quality webcast. Also, because most of the folks who wanted to watch the match would be busy on other pitches around the state during the livestream.
Just some thoughts to consider.
Yeah a proper webstream with all the bells and whistles is nice. However, I wouldn't want to see schools be discouraged from giving it go because they can't do it as good as school X or whatever.
DeleteAny webstream is better then no stream.
Also when it comes to webstreams from what I've observed its very much a trial an error sort of thing. Life's streams at first were really bad. But year by year it keeps getting better. Its a development process much like developing players.
I would appreciate it if someone these self-produced broadcasts and compiled them within a website to make it easier to watch any and all rugby games... Wink-wink to any tech-savy people...
