U.S.A. vs. Canada: Eagles Player Grades

The last several matches between the U.S. and Canada have been decided by narrow margins. Saturday’s 16-9 win for Canada was no exception. The difference in the match largely rest on a botched U.S. lineout in the first half which Canada recovered for the only try of the match. That mistake surely cost the Eagles the match but it was more symptomatic of their lackluster effort in the first half in which they put themselves in an early hole from which they couldn’t climb out. The lack of effort shines through in our player grades, which are the subject of my latest RugbyRugby article. Some players had strong days—Lou Stanfill and Andrew Suniula—while other players did not—Zach Fenolgio and Toby L’Estrange. Check out the grades and share what you think.

  1. I'd give Hume a higher rating, although I'd like to see him go looking for a bit more work. He was really the only back who looked dangerous for us. Not the best conditions for back play but it sure wasn't helped by Shaw having an off game. And even with it not being Shaw's best performance, it still was a lot better than some of the scrumhalf play we've seen in the past.
