Basauri Stays With Tarbes, Signs Extension

Inaki Basauri will be staying with Tarbes have signing a three year extension with the team. The Maryland-native made the move to Tarbes after spending the previous season with Perigueuex, also in the Pro D2. Basauri previously spent time with Lannemezan, Agen, Marmande, and Massy in France, as well as L'Aquila in Italy. Tarbes finished sixth out of 16 teams in the ProD2 last season.

In total he played 19 matches for Tarbes last season with 13 starts. A good portion of his season was slowed by a knee injury, which also kept him out of Eagles contention this summer. In speaking with TIAR, Basauri said that he had rehabbed his knee all June and is now back to sprinting and heavy lifting. He makes the third Eagle this week to to agree to a contract. Robbie Shaw made the move to Esher and Roland Suniula made the move to Vienne.

What do you make the news? Happy to see an American sign an extension in Europe?

  1. More signings are definitely a good thing. We will NEED veterans of professional leagues to intersperse among the teams once we have a a professional XVs competition.
